Melissa Holliday and Sophie Mellor, Home Instead

Sisters Melissa and Sophie run Home Instead Lytham, Fylde and Wyre, reaching a milestone decade working together as well as purchasing their second Home Instead franchise in reston and South Ribble

Why franchising and why Home Instead? Sophie: We started our rst franchise in our mid-twenties and came across Home Instead after struggling to nd good quality care for our grandfather who had dementia.

Melissa: We were blown away by the Home Instead ethos quality care and the care professionals we came into contact with it really inspired us to bring the same level of care to our local community. We discovered the amazing support Home Instead offer to their franchisees and this made us feel condent that it was the right opportunity for us. One that provided us with everything we needed to build a large successful business.

We have each other’s backs through tough times and share all our successes together. We knew that business can often be a very male-orientated environment particularly from our eperience in the nancial services but we wanted to use that to our advantage as people really liked the fact we were different  young female and ambitious and that allowed us to stand out from the crowd.

Right from the beginning they welcome you to come and meet the National Ofce team and other franchisees to help nd out more about franchising and the opportunity. Then there’s ongoing training advice and everything you need to help you build and grow your franchise.

Melissa: Even after we came on board it was reassuring to know that we were part of a tried-and-tested business model  one that is proven in providing quality home care for older people. With a franchise you know there are always others who are happy to provide knowledge and support it’s always wonderful to meet up with other franchise owners such as at conference where we all learn but have a great time.

Any advice for others considering a franchise? Sophie: We’d say go for it particularly other women who are looking to enter the world of franchising we’d say believe in yourself and have condence in your abilities.

Melissa: 10 years on we look back with great memories of the challenges we overcame together and look forward to a fantastic future And remember with franchising you are never alone.
