FRANCHISEFOCUS INVESTMENT: FROM £12 0,000 Getting care Right
From corporate high-flyer to community care businessman with Right at Home
R
ecently crowned Right at Home’s Employer of the Year (50+ Staff) winner, Grantley Lynch joined the
network in July 2018. He’s been on quite the journey since! In the last 12 months – against a backdrop of tough operating conditions post-pandemic and post- Brexit – he’s increased his revenue by a fantastic 86%. It’s a far cry from his previous career in
which Grantley was used to managing global teams in New York, Frankfurt and Singapore. So what makes someone who was once so invested in IT and global business management turn to the care profession and go solo? He explains: “I wanted to do something for myself, and I wanted to influence the care my parents receive as they grow older.” And it was his values that led him Right at Home. He continues: “I found the team to be quite understated and over-delivering. They’re very down-to- earth people. The first time I visited the national office, I was impressed with how straight to the point they are: ‘This is who we are, this is what we do.’ It spoke strongly to who my wife and I are. “They’re extremely selective about
who can be a franchisee. It’s a rigorous process of recruitment. So, I had an insight into how much hard work it’s going to be, but it just demonstrates how serious and committed you have to be. “As a franchisee you have access to
the massive support structure. When I was researching various care franchises, there were a handful of companies who went the extra mile with their support, and Right at Home were at the top. In my opinion, they still are.”
“Changing the perception of a career in care”
The care recruitment challenge A major reason why Grantley’s been able to demonstrate such strong growth is his ability to recruit and retain fantastic staff – the biggest challenge facing all social care businesses. It’s an area where Right at Home
excels, with a huge focus on supporting franchise owners to build sustainable, passionate and loyal teams of best-in- class CareGivers.
In the last year, the brand has
launched multiple initiatives to help change the perception of a career in care and enable franchise owners to successfully navigate the recruitment market, including: Proud of My Profession – a library of digital and video content of care teams talking about why they love their jobs and their colleagues. New Year, New Career – multimedia content, with messaging focusing on job security. Careers In Care – wider education: editorial, social and website content highlighting the varied roles and career progression routes that can be taken with Right at Home and the support on offer to help employees get there.
There’s also been an innovative
Careers Quiz; a coaching and mentoring programme to upskill leaders of the future; and huge media campaigns which have featured in parliament, the BBC and extensively in the homecare press. Franchisees have been involved every
step of the way via a recruitment and marketing steering group, ensuring the support provided is absolutely on point for their business requirements. Grantley says: “The recruitment
marketing support has been superb. You can choose to use what you prefer and tailor-make it for your own business. “Whilst you do not have to use any of
the vast array of material on offer, if you do it allows you as the business owner to focus on what is really important to run your business." l
