Why franchising and why Visiting Angels? I previously worked in a franchise and saw the advantages of having your own business with a ready- made structure, support network, and a bit of a safety net. Running your own company can be isolating, but being part of a network through franchising is a more positive experience, and I enjoy meeting new people. I had heard of Visiting Angels (VA) during prior
employer trips to the US, so I was aware of their size, experience, and major presence in the home care market. I was aware that VA was a reputable brand that provided excellent care while also treating carers well. I was wondering why I wasn't running my own
business given my passion for quality care and my experience in caring jobs until I learned that VA had arrived in the UK. I knew that if we didn't invest in the area we wanted, someone else would, and I'd live to regret not trying.
What job satisfaction does it provide? That’s extremely challenging to quantify! This week, I've been quoting: "If you love your job, you'll never have to work a day in your life. It's difficult job, and I'm surprised that I don't mind the long hours because what we do is so important. People do not choose to have a long-term disease that necessitates care, and I believe it is our

responsibility to assist those in less fortunate situations in life.
How is business so far? Unbelievable – the phone never stops ringing with enquiries for care. Maintaining our quality while growing the company is essential to having a good/trustworthy reputation. We are in an excellent position. We recently won the Visiting Angels Franchisee of the year 2022 award and are over the moon!
What are your plans for the future of the business? Upwards and forwards from here. I want us to help as many people as we can, being a safe pair of hands and a good employer.
Describe a typical day... There is no such thing as a normal day! We manage various groups of people with constantly changing needs to which we must react. There is so much potential activity in care, whether it's taking a phone care enquiry, visiting a new client for a care consultation or meeting with a statutory partner to review the client's care requirements, and so on. Every day is truly unique. That said, I’m possibly busier than ever, but it’s invigorating and I love being my own boss!
