Real-life stories IT COULD BE YOU!
Home care businesses attract people with a passion to help their community – Like Will and Judy
H
usband-and-wife team, Will and Judy Clay, opened their Home Instead franchise in the South Lakes, Cumbria in 2018. They have achieved huge growth since launching, and now
manage a team of 50 providing CQC ‘outstanding’ rated care to hundreds of older people across the area. Prior to launching their caring venture,
the couple both had career backgrounds in sales, leading and managing teams. After long, demanding careers, they wanted to move away from the corporate world and do something more rewarding. Judy began working in a retirement complex,
where she saw first-hand the home care services Home Instead provided for some of the residents. She saw the real difference their care made, and knew they were unique in their approach and mission- with care visits lasting a minimum of one hour, providing companionship as well as care.
"Home Instead’s wealth of support helps us make a real difference to the lives of older people in the community"
When his own mother needed help, Will
witnessed the difficulty many older people and their families have accessing good quality care. Knowing he too wanted a more rewarding role, they began looking for business opportunities in care. Will explains: “We spent a lot of time researching
opportunities, and we were really drawn to the ethos of Home Instead. They really do things differently, putting the client at the heart of everything they do – including one-hour minimum care visits and specially matched caregivers.” Supported by the team at National Office, Judy and Will found the perfect opportunity for them in the Lakes. Alongside making a big move in their careers, the couple also relocated to launch their business – moving from Hampshire

to Cumbria to open their franchise. Judy comments: “We have always loved the
Lakes, and as there was a franchise territory available here we jumped at the opportunity! Although we were living in Hampshire with family there, we knew that one day we would relocate- and the opportunity came at the perfect time. It’s such a refreshing place to live, with vast scenery, amazing walks, and a real community feel. “Home Instead not only gave us the opportunity
to set up our own business, but they provide us with a wealth of support, helping us to make a real difference to the lives of older people throughout the community.” Home Instead is the UK's leading home care
franchise, with over 230 franchise offices. Their mission is to 'change the face of ageing' through their companionship-led home care services.
