Cleaning

run my business the way I wanted to, with staff I’d recruited and to be thoroughly rewarded for all my endeavours rather than it going to someone else.

What attracted you to this franchise opportunity? I was looking for a management franchise, since I’m not a hands-on practical person, myself! Being able to piggy-back on such a nationally aware brand in the home domestic cleaning arena – that Merry Maids is so well known, and that you can trade off that on a local basis was one of the main reasons... Plus the security of knowing that behind me would be years of experience on hand to guide me through my first few months.

How has life changed since you launched your franchise? Without a doubt on a personal level it’s been about striking more of a work-life balance. Merry Maids offers an opportunity to work when you need to and have downtime too.

What are your plans for the future? Making the business the best it can be! My long- term goals are to increase the turnover to a very comfortable level and take full advantage of the opportunity for early retirement! But who knows… Possibly further expansion in a couple of years!

Merry Maids G 30

ina Glendinning joined the Merry Maids network in 2018 after purchasing the existing Wakefield & South Leeds franchise opportunity. Her husband then joined the network in 2021 after also

purchasing an existing franchise opportunity (York & Harrogate). Gina takes up the story:

What did you do before franchising and what prompted you to make the change? I spent 32 years in the high-pressured world of finance. Running my own business gives me the opportunity to reduce the 'bad' stress and thrive on the 'good' stress. Looking at the Merry Maids franchise – it ticked all the boxes for me. I decided I wanted to do something for myself;

Would you recommend franchising, and Merry Maids, to others? Merry Maids has offered me security, brand awareness and the ability to run a business my way but with a strong support network available. ServiceMaster Group have stood by and helped me when needed. Recognising my strengths and affording me the opportunity to succeed, whilst being in the background as my trusted advisor.

Any advice to others Always try to expect the unexpected, staff will undoubtedly have problems that will take them away from work and you can never predict the future! Don't compromise on your core values, if you have provided a quote stand by it, do not sell yourself and your team short. As with many families Lockdown hit hard,

my husband’s Financial Services business was adversely affected and he decided that a change of career was needed. Knowing that the existing Franchisee was

wanting to retire Gareth decided to take the plunge and joined me as an owner/operator within the ServiceMaster family. He has already seen an uptick in business activity and enquiries – a successful 2021 is in full flow! 
