Minster Cleaning Services refl ects on another lucrative year for the business INVESTMENT LEVEL: FROM £28,225
ast year proved to be yet another excellent one for Minster Cleaning Services, the country’s biggest and most successful commercial cleaning franchise.
Following 12 months of healthy growth, annual turnover for the group is now approaching £40million. Many branches have achieved annual sales in excess of £1million and the top 10 are averaging annual sales in excess of £1.7million. In March of 2017, just a month after being the fi rst Minster franchisee to reach annual sales of £2million, James Lofthouse, with his Sheffi eld- based business, was named the 2016 Minster Cleaning Services Franchisee of the Year. Marc Goddard of the Leeds and Wakefi eld branch also joined the elite Minster £2million club in August. Retirement prompted the sale of one of Minster’s largest branches, Liverpool and Wirral, and the new franchisee, Tony Hughes, has kept the business growing since he took over in March. The highly profi table Devon and Cornwall Minster branch also came up for sale in 2017. The business has grown steadily since its inception in 1995 and now has an annual turnover of over £500,000. Covering such major towns and cities as Bodmin, Exeter, Newton Abbot, Plymouth, St Austell, Torquay and Truro, the branch has tremendous growth potential while being situated in one of the UK’s best places to live. The purchase of an established franchise gives franchisees cashfl ow, customers and staff from day one. It can also provide evidence of what can and has been achieved and it can show how the business is likely to perform in varying market conditions. Most of Minster’s recent franchisees have joined by acquiring a resale where they have all the advantages of taking over at branches that are working well and have an experienced cleaning workforce, knowledgeable fi eld and admin staff and a substantial profi t stream. Recent incoming resale franchisees have all made signifi cant positive impacts on the Minster businesses that they bought. Since Kevin Lawley took over the Norfolk and Suff olk branch in 2011, he’s more than trebled turnover, as well as scooping various accolades for his performance.

In September, 23-year-old University of Manchester graduate Nisha Gogna joined marketing manager Paul Stairmand. Together, they provide the franchise network with support in winning new clients and retaining and generating increased sales from existing clients. Whether they buy an established branch or choose a new area, Minster franchisees benefi t from a highly eff ective marketing strategy as well as help with the transition from employment to self-employment. Ongoing support also covers operational management, administration, bookkeeping and IT, and professional advice in the complex fi elds of employment law, health and safety and environmental legislation. Minster Cleaning Services was established in 1982 and has been a full member of the British Franchise Association since 1992. With so much experience of franchising and the commercial cleaning market, Minster gives prospective franchisees a rock-solid business model with considerable opportunities for growth and a safe, secure future.
Exceptionally large territories give enterprising franchisees virtually unlimited scope for expansion and, as an essential business-to-business
service with multi-sector appeal, offi ce cleaning is less susceptible to fl uctuations in the economy than most sectors. Larger branches can employ upwards of 200 workers, so people- management skills are essential. There are current resales in Derbyshire, and Devon and Cornwall, available at a fee of £10,000 plus vat in addition to the purchase price of the business. Please contact Minster for further details. New franchise opportunities include Cambridge, Doncaster, Durham, Guildford, Leicester, London, Middlesex, Peterborough and Swansea. Initial startup cost is £28,225 plus vat, which covers licence, trading support and a marketing startup package. In addition, between £40,000 and £60,000 working capital will be needed – fi nance is available from leading banks subject to status.
