Radfield Home Care
Cousins Lisa and Jennie cover the territory of Havering and Brentwood, Essex. They started trading in July 2017.
What did you do before franchising? We have both experienced fantastic careers in the corporate world. However, we were looking to set up something of our own that would make the best use of our experience, yet bring something quite special into our community. We both love meeting people and helping others, and for the last few years we have been seeking out the right opportunity to start something new, which was aligned to our values.
Why franchising and why with Radfield Home Care? A franchise model removes the unknown. With the added value of working with an experienced franchisor there’s a greater likelihood of business success. We felt our personal values and business goals very much aligned with Radfield’s core values and ethos and we liked how approachable and supportive the franchise team are. The Radfield Home Care franchise package has given us an incredible start with a powerful brand, a fantastic website and first-class training.
How did you find out about the opportunity? We attended The National Franchise Exhibition and met Radfield’s founders Alex Green and Hannah MacKechnie, as well as the company’s franchise team. Their clear focus on the quality of care being provided by Radfield was a key attraction for us, along with the obvious passion we felt from the team. As we are cousins, we felt truly

aligned to Radfield’s strong family values and were excited to build and develop our Radfield family in Essex. Throughout our franchise journey, our initial views have been constantly reinforced. Radfield has a clear vision of what it wants to achieve and it is supported by strong leadership.
“When we see the results of the business growing it is so satisfying”
Why were you drawn to a franchise in the care industry? We have a passion for helping others and want to inspire independence and positivity in the older generation. This business allows us to fulfil our ambitions of creating something that truly benefits our local community but allows us the autonomy to be creative and innovative while still having the ‘feelgood factor’.
What training and support did you receive, both at the start and ongoing? We needed the most support with developing our marketing strategy. Although we have business backgrounds, it is always tricky to know the right approach to use at a local level to target the audience in the right way. Radfield has delivered unique marketing campaigns, training and support, plus we have worked with the franchise team to develop press
releases, marketing and event plans, and social media campaigns.
The training has been first class and, given that we did not have a background in care, we have felt completely confident in entering the marketplace with our brand, knowing that we have a compelling and competitive proposition.
How has business been so far? It’s been an exciting journey so far; soon after we completed the Radfield leadership training programme, covering marketing, recruitment, systems and the brand, we secured our office in Hornchurch and recruited our first member of staff. Since launching our business less than a year ago, we have smashed through all of our growth targets and we have also won the Judges’ Award at the Thames Gateway Business Awards.
What are your plans for the future of the business? We have some big ambitions. First and foremost, we want to continue to grow our client base and build a large care team delivering the highest quality of stay-at- home care. Over time, we would like to set up a second office in an adjoining territory, allowing us to bring our service to a wider community. The future is looking very bright indeed!
How has your life changed since you launched your Radfield franchise? We both feel more in control of our destiny now. It is very empowering coming to work and knowing that not only are we providing a highly valued service to our community but we are also building something for ourselves. We still work hard but it feels more worth it, and when we see the results of the business growing it is so satisfying.
Would you recommend franchising to others? And do you have any advice for those considering franchising? Yes, absolutely. However, we would advise spending the time to find a franchisor who you can build a relationship with and feel as much a part of their journey as your own. Having a franchisor who is behind you every step of the way is invaluable.
