A change in pace thanks to a mobile coffee franchise
After 30 years working within a high-pressure environment in the logistics industry, Matt Hunt felt he needed to do something completely different.
e knew that he had to change his work life. “My phone was always on,” he says. “I was needed day and night and the demands of my job were only increasing.” Matt decided it was time to work for himself, but needed to identify how to make it happen.
Matt headed to The British & International Franchise Exhibition in spring 2016, so that he could explore the world of franchising. With an open mind, he approached a number of brands representing different sectors at the event to learn about their products and business models.
Among the brands that caught his attention was Cafe2U, a mobile coffee franchise. What started out as an informal chat with a member of the team soon turned into keen interest, as Matt was particularly impressed with their transparent and supportive way of working.
A meeting with Franchise Finance at the exhibition on the practicalities of pursuing a franchise, plus honest feedback from
existing franchise partners provided further evidence to Matt that Cafe2U could be a good option. Following careful additional research and due diligence completed in the weeks after the event, Matt signed as the Cafe2U franchise partner for Stevenage. After completing the brand’s training programme, he opened for business in November 2016. Matt comments: “I had no experience in the retail coffee industry, but I’ve been proven right in my choice of partnership with Cafe2U. I’ve received valuable support from head office and the network of existing franchise partners every step of the way, and I still benefit from proactive and effective input from Cafe2U’s business development manager to grow my income. “I’ve got a business that allows me to answer to myself and my family in terms of workload, and I thoroughly enjoy making customers happy with great coffee and friendly service. I harnessed the advantages offered by going into business via a franchise and have achieved the change in life I was looking for.”
A family investment in Fitness Space
The Alsaidi family decided that they wanted to do something constructive with the money they’d recently inherited. With his degree in retail management, Hashim Alsaidi knew that franchising could be an exciting and lucrative avenue.
H
ashim, his mother, brother and wife headed to The British & International Franchise Exhibition in January 2017. As a consultant to the food and beverage industry, a franchise in the food sector was an obvious choice for Hashim, but after attending one of the many exhibition seminars, his attention was drawn to the fitness industry. Hashim recognised that a gym-based franchise would allow his family to achieve their goal of maintaining their existing jobs, while also owning a family business offering high returns. With their sights now set on a fitness brand, Hashim and his brother approached the Fitness Space stand and were immediately drawn to the brand’s unique business model and expert team.
By April, the Alsaidi family had signed up for the Wimbledon
territory. They worked closely with Fitness Space to secure optimal premises in the London borough and to fit them out. Fitness Space Wimbledon opened its doors on 5 January 2018.
Hashim comments: “I can’t sing the praises of the Fitness Space team and business model enough. From practical and effective support, to reassurance based on their extensive experience, they’ve been with us every step of the way.” He continues: “From the perspective of launching a business as a family, the franchise model couldn’t be better! Because you’re following a prescribed and proven formula, there can be no disagreements over logo design, or what colour to paint the walls. There is some flexibility, of course, but in general the major decisions have been made, freeing you up to focus on the more important aspects of the
business, like attracting members and growing sales.” As for the future, Hashim concludes: “I went into this with the view that it would be an additional income stream and occupation that would run alongside my day job. Having seen the franchise process in action, however, and experiencing the outstanding support of Fitness Space, further franchises are now certainly on my radar.”
