Q: How can I ensure that my franchisor will offer ongoing support?


A: Franchise support is one of the single most-important factors in launching a successful franchise business, and a factor that you should take extremely seriously. You should enquire what level of support is off ered; for the best chance of success reliable, consistent and quality support is a must. Check what the support team consists of and that the structure ensures that the diff ering needs of a franchisee are fully catered for. As you grow in size and scale your needs will change as you gain more experience. Speak to existing franchisees and ask about how their issues are dealt with and what is on off er to help them grow their business.


Support can be provided in many forms, which can be regular territory visits, additional training opportunities, centralised initiatives, tele-conferencing, and sales assistance, as well as off site franchise conferences.


Check what else the franchisor off ers to develop and support your growth. Are they interested in developing you as a franchisee? Are they approachable? What will the launch consist of? Finally, check if the franchisor is a member of the British Franchise Association. This helps franchisees locate good franchisors and ensures that the opportunities presented are qualifi ed, ethical and fair to all parties.
