REAL STORIES

By trading exclusively in digital entertainment products, the Complete entertainment eXchange (CeX) has catapulted the buy-and-sell concept into the 21st century

I

n the ever-changing world of technology, the ability of a brand to adapt to the market can make all the diff erence between success and failure. There is no better example of this than CeX. The fl exible structure of the business model has seen it thrive in economic times – both good and bad – and this, together with the passion of its franchisees, has enabled the formation of a global network of outlets in a relatively short space of time.

MATTHEW FREEMAN

What was your previous occupation and why did you leave?

For the last 11 years I have worked for CeX. I started as a sales assistant for a corporate store, as well as working within other departments and stores for a number of years. CeX has given me a great opportunity and I look forward to seeing the success of the Letchworth branch.

Why did you decide to look into franchising with CeX?

After many years of working for CeX and seeing how the business model worked, I decided that the next step would be for me to get my own store. For as long as I can

What were your criteria for a franchise? To have good support and a strong network around me to help further development, and I have always found CeX to be great with support. I have also been lucky to have the network of not only CeX but family and close friends around me to help with getting my franchise.

Where did you fi nd out about the CeX franchise?

Being that I have worked for the company and I have friends that are franchisees, fi nding out information on the process was made easier.

What appealed most about a CeX franchise business? I love the atmosphere, helping people, and technology. To get all these under one roof and for me to be my own boss had great appeal.

What training did you receive? Over the years I have had ample training and opportunities within the company, and have also undergone additional franchise training in order to become a franchisee.

How would you rate it? I rate it highly. They really do make sure you

have a thorough understanding of all aspects of what is required.

Since becoming a franchise owner is it how you expected it to be? So far, it is what I expected and much more.

What type of ongoing support have you received? I have received support in several diff erent areas, from my franchise manager to operations manager, and then roaming support manager.

What aspect of the support have you found most benefi cial?

I know that, should I ever need anything, they are only an email or a call away and always happy to help.

Do you feel that CeX has fulfi lled its obligations? Yes, so far so good.

What do you enjoy most about your business? How has it improved your day-to-day lifestyle? It means I have better control of my time, and a better work-life balance.

What are your future plans for the CeX franchise business? I am keen to have a couple more stores under my belt.

What sort of person do you think a CeX franchise would suit?

Someone who has a passion for technology, and has a high regard for customer satisfaction – but, ultimately, strong business acumen.
