ShakeTastic opens third store in the Middle East

n London-based ShakeTastic has opened up its third Middle Eastern store in just over 12 months. The new outlet in the Al Salaam Mall in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, joins two other franchises trading in Qatar. The milkshake and smoothie company, which recently became a provisional member of the British Franchise Association, already has eight stores in London. ShakeTastic was founded by former school friends Josh Kettle and Amir Darabi in 2009. There are plans for further openings in the Middle East alongside the launch of UK franchise opportunities. Josh says: “Opening in Jeddah is another massive milestone for us as it shows the rapid international expansion

and booming popularity of our stores. “Working with our Saudi partners has been fantastic and everyone involved is excited about the future.” Amir adds: “We’ve grown internationally in a totally organic way. We’re now looking to recruit franchisees in the UK who can help us bring the ShakeTastic taste to even more people.

“The Middle Eastern market has a real appetite for premium products from the UK and we see this area as a place we can work with more partners to expand our brand and spread ShakeTastic across the globe.” ShakeTastic won the Best Smoothie

award at the British Smoothie Championships in 2009, 2010 and 2013.

Comment What can I expect at a franchise exhibition?

You can expect a busy and sometimes quite frenetic atmosphere. There are many exhibitors vying for your time and many people booked in for meetings with them. Get an exhibition guide, fi nd out which seminars you want to attend and then gather information on them, or there is a risk that you will get distracted on the day. Don’t dismiss an exhibitor without at least fi nding out a bit more about them, as these franchises could be the ones that tick all the boxes for you. Some franchisors off er a discovery

day; book yourself in if any are local to you, as they are a great way to check the franchisor out and they often have exhibition incentives for attending. Having a plan of action for the day will help you to achieve your goal. Exhibition centres are massive and can be overwhelming initially. As well as doing research beforehand, take a comfortable pair of shoes and avoid the temptation to rush around, as you will inevitably miss something if you do. It is advisable to see the exhibition as a full-day event and not a quick fi x.
