Apply a thin layer of straw stiffener to the crown’s exterior and let it dry completely.


If the straw begins to dry out too quickly while stitching, place both the braid and


the tea towel inside a plastic bag to retain moisture.

Your crown is now complete and ready to be paired with the brim sewin in Part 1 of this workroom technique (see Issue 100).


Make as many crowns


as you like in a variety of colours and materials to combine with the


brim. By making more parts, you get a lot of possibilities to make the hat match your clothing.”
