Wiring the button Draw around the button block on a piece of paper. Add the hole marks you made on the button shape in Step 11. These marks should be transferred onto the paper. Using the drawing as a guide, measure


the wire around half the shape with added extra lengths. Do this again on the other side. Add enough wire to make a ‘G’ shape on the end of each wire. See the drawing showing the lift from the headband to the hat you would like.

Wiring the disk My measurements are based on a basic button block of a good size, bought from an sustainable and ethical supplier from Etsy: ArtisansCrafts4uShop.


Using the poked holes The holes that were poked in Step 11 will be used to poke the wire ends through your shape to fit your shape below the inner edge of the button. Pin the wire into the button edge.

Sewing wire Sew the wire in the edge of the bottom of the button, using an over or wire stitch.

Covering wires Cover the wire for the height and the G shapes with the corresponding colour of 2.5 mm crinoline tube. If you need to, colour the wire to match the tube colour. If you have a problem with sliding the crinoline tube over the wire, poke a round nose plier or fine scissors through the centre of the crinoline hole to expand ends.

Making the G shapes Shape the wire ends into the G shapes needed to lay flat and attach to the headband. Don’t forget to leave your wire to raise the hat above the headband.
