Remove the buckram edge from the block. For now, do not trim all of the excess material along the outer edge.

For the lining (underside of the brim), cut a piece of silk measuring 42 x 42 cm. Dampen this wet with your plant sprayer.

Stretch the silk – with the good side of the fabric against the wood – over the block...

…as shown in Step 03 and prick out the screw holes as indicated in Step 04.

Mark the circumference of the head-fitting block with pins and repeat the procedure as described in Steps 06, 07 and 08.

Lay the buckram layer over the silk layer and then trim off the excess fabric along the outer edge. Now carefully remove both layers together from the block, keeping them nice and tightly against each other.

Pin together the silk and buckram layers in the head-fitting, then glue the loose flaps of both layers together.

Now glue the entire silk layer to the buckram layer. Start glueing at the head-fitting side, working in the round at a width of 1.5 cm and so on towards the outer edge.

Do not overload your brush with glue and make sure to spread the glue well into the buckram (i.e. not onto the silk!).
