zum Hut Mut
Armeemuseum/Neues Schloss, Ingolstadt, Germany 23–25 September 2022
Every year on the last weekend of September, Germany’s biggest hat event Mut zum Hut customarily takes its place in a castle in Neuburg an der Donau. In 2021, because of renovation work at the castle, organisers Ute and Isabel Patel were forced to choose another location for their annual three-day millinery and jewellery event. The choice of the Bavarian Army Museum (Bayerisches Armeemuseum) in nearby Ingolstadt turned out to be an excellent alternative venue for the 60 participating exhibitors made up of milliners, hat makers and accessory designers. Which is why it hosted this year’s edition as well.

As announced in 2021, this year Isabel Patel fully took over the organisation from her mother Ute Patel- Missfeldt, who established the event in 1998. Ute’s goal back then was to offer a new platform to makers of an old craft and to give visitors the opportunity to find beautiful accessories. In 2022, this format still proves to be a successful one. Isabel said: “Our big highlights this year were Irene van Vugt Hats and Bags,
art.means.hope jewellery, Ostwald Finest Couture Bags, Lothar Daniel Bechtold fashion (master tailor), and the ‘Fife Pipe’
pipers from Scotland. The hat shows on Saturday and Sunday had many visitors and the exhibitors were pleased with the overall event. And there was more good news: the Bavarian National Museum in Munich took note of Mut zum Hut and in October organised an exhibition with hats from our exhibitors.”
Mut zum Hut will be back again in September 2023 (exact dates and location to be confirmed).
