28 WORKING TOGETHER TO LEAD THE WAY

With six leading international partner bodies as joint owners – IABM, IEEE BTS, IET, RTS, SCTE and SMPTE – IBC is run by the industry, for the industry. IBC’s board is formed by the leaders of these international bodies who hold extensive experience across the industry, setting its direction as the leading global media, entertainment and technology show

IABM is the international trade association for the broadcast and media industry. It facilitates the all-important networking and interaction that shape and define the uniue ecosystem of the broadcast and media technology industry, ensuring that members are kept informed by providing an infrastructure of services and facilities to encourage discussion and collaboration across the whole BaM supply chain.

CEO Peter White sits on the IBC board, providing the vendors’ viewpoint and ensuring that IBC meets IABM’s goal of members successfully navigate change.

IEEE BTS is the Broadcast Technology Society within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Its aim is to be a collaborative working group driving the advancement of technology in the industry, while serving the needs of members to enhance their professional knowledge by keeping them informed of the latest research results and their practical applications.

BTS began life in 1912 with the formation of the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE). It now has about 2000 members and chapters worldwide. Bill Hayes, Past President, IEE BTS, sits on the IBC board.

IET – the Institution of Engineering and Technology – is dedicated to inspiring, informing and influencing the global engineering community to engineer a better world. With a focus on championing the importance of engineering and technology in everything, the IET in its current form has existed since 2006, but it’s roots can be traced as far back as 1871 with the creation of the Society of Telegraph Engineers. IET is represented on the IBC board by Director of Knowledge Services & Solutions, Giles Grant.

RTS, the Royal Television Society, embraces all aspects of television, and is open to anyone with an interest in the medium. As an educational charity, it encourages and celebrates work in television and its related fields, from finding out how the nations favourite shows are made, to celebrating burgeoning talent at its annual student awards. Originally founded as the Television Society in 1927, the society was granted its royal title in 1966. Today, 15 regional and national groups curate events and awards around the UK and Ireland. RTS CEO Teresa Wise represents the society on the IBC board.

SCTE – the Society for Broadband Professionals – is a professional body for all broadband engineers and technicians worldwide. It provides accreditation and certification for its members, giving them professional standing within the industry. Although its pedigree comes from the cable TV arena, its remit also covers delivery of content over the ‘last mile’, including coax, twisted pair, wireless and fibre. Long-standing IBC supporter Dr Roger Blakeway, SCTE CEO, is an IBC board member, bringing commercial as well as technical experience in the proliferation of new content distribution platforms.

SMPTE, a global society of media professionals, technologists and engineers working together to drive the industry forward, is perhaps best known as the most important standards-setting body in the industry. It is focused on the advancement of all things technical in the motion picture, television and digital media industries, creating an engaged member community through educational offerings, technical conferences, exhibitions and more. SMPTE’s President Dr Hans Hoffmann, Head of Media Fundamentals and Production at the European Broadcasting Union, sits on the IBC board.
