ZERO WASTE
100% of them are incorrect. What they think they can do and what they can actually do is always out of kilter.” While obtaining accurate actual data is important, what is more important is obtaining insight from people running the process. It means getting inputs from people running the machines. For OFS, the solution for productivity entails a combination of data, opinions, ideas, and respect. Even-Chaim points out: “Data is important. But there are people involved. Engineers often actually just want to talk to the data. They never want to hear from the people. But I’m yet to find a process where excellence doesn’t start with people.” With his organization built on empowerment, trust among teams, and empathy, he strives to pass on these same values to the companies OFS works with.
NUDIE FOODS, AUSTRALIA A subsidiary of Monde Nissin and a leading producer of fruit juices, Nudie Foods kickstarted its industry 4.0 journey with OFS. It saw results in just six days, instantly transforming their operational performance.
The challenge was to increase accountability, improve performance, save time and become more proactive through: Empowering staff to provide feedback to their team and give everyone access to insights, Streamlining productivity objectives Presenting and analyzing real-time live data in the factory to avoid repeat issues and reduce overtime Eliminating double handling of manual paper records to save time and resources Providing schedulers with a more reliable production data and the tools to enable dynamic and less reactive resource planning.
The results: Overnight, Nudie Foods had access to organized and accurate data, providing valuable insights to focus resources and align priorities. With data to support capital proposals and assist with scheduling and planning, both overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and team morale continues to trend upwards.
It yielded a 60% weekly reduction in unplanned time on their packer, and subsequently a significant lift in OEE%. In less than six months, they are on track to become a paperless factory. They are excited about how this will transform their compliance, accountability and audit processes.
According to Ben Wentworth-Perry, Nudie Foods’ NSW site operations manager, “If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it,” he says. “Now we keep breaking records. And our operators are the first to know with the visual factory.”
