Physics | Energy | Energy Transfer A. Nuffield Line Shaft Unit A
To demonstrate the cycle of energy change from electrical, to mechanical to potential (stored in the raised mass), back to mechanical and finally electrical energy used to light the lamp. The shaft extends 50mm beyond the end of the baseboard and is provided with a pair of collars to form the winding drum for the cord.
E8H30518 B. Nuffield Spring Unit
This unit is used to demonstrate the reversible series of changes from electrical energy (battery or power pack), to mechanical energy (motor), to potential energy (stored in the spring), back to mechanical energy (the spring driving the motor/generator), finally returning to electrical energy to light a lamp. The large clock spring is provided with a ratchet and pawl and geared to the motor/generator. The spring may be wound by hand if necessary. Guard strips are provided over the spring and the gears.
E8H30415 C. Hand Driven Generator Unit
A stimulating addition to any lesson on energy conversion, electricity or magnetism. The hand generator directly involves the students in investigations by using their own energy to generate d.c. electricity. Slowly turn the handle and the bulbs of the Triple Lamp Unit will light dimly, turn faster and the bulbs become brighter.
B
The d.c. hand motor/generator is a high quality motor unit driven from the hand crank via 2 stage step up gearing. It is capable of generating approximately 6V d.c., with the polarity determined by the direction the handle is turned.
Supplied with 1m of detachable twin lead terminating in a pair of crocodile clips.
