Biology | Microbiology A. Antibiotic Sensitivity Testing Kit SENSITIVITY TO ANTIBIOTICS
The growth of bacteria is affected to a greater or lesser extent by a variety of antibiotics. These reactions have implications for human beings in the treatment of disease. The items that follow allow this phenomenon to be readily demonstrated.
A
This kit enables students to study the reaction of two bacteria to different concentrations of the same antibiotic and to two different antibiotics.
Contents:
• Cultures of Escherichia Coli and Staphylococcus albus
• 10 vials of nutrient agar • 2 vials of nutrient broth • 20 petri dishes • 10 antibiotic discs Penicillin 1.5IU • 10 antibiotic discs Penicillin 5IU • 10 antibiotic discs Streptomycin 25µg • Instructions Sufficient for 10 students/groups. Direct Delivery - up to 5 weeks.
E8A18612 B. Antibodies in Saliva Kit
This kit enables students to identify quantitatively naturally occurring antibodies (immunoglobulin A) in their saliva. These antibodies are the important first line of defence against infections of all kinds and are responsible for attacking pathogens in ‘external’ body environments. The principle of immunodiffusion - diffusion of saliva through an agar gel containing antiserum is employed to detect the antibody. Suitable for ‘A’ level and college students.
Contents: • Sodium chloride • Petri dishes x 20 • Filter papers • Buffered agar medium • Anti-IgA serum • Coomassie stain • Microdroppers • Sample boat • Instructions Sufficient for 20 students/groups. Direct Delivery - up to 5 weeks.
