HLSC3480 Medical Aspects of Athletics with HLSC3481 Lab


Musculoskeletal injuries are commonplace in both athletic and physical activity participation. Fundamental knowledge associated with preventing, assessing, and caring for injuries that occur during physical activity and athletic participation will be examined. Topics include pathology of sports and physical activity injury, the healing process, injury evaluation and treatment of the all lower peripheral joints and abnormal gait, first aid /emergency care, and injury rehabilitation, as well as preventative measures including the use of protective equipment,

HLSC3900 Behavioral Aspects of Health and Exercise


The benefits of physical activity, exercise, and nutrition on health are well known; however, a majority of the population finds it difficult to meet even the minimal recommended amount of physical activity per day. The purpose of this class will be to explore issues surrounding adherence to physical activity, exercise, and proper nutrition. This course will also serve to set forth specific strategies, tools, and methods to motivate and inspire clients, patients, and the community to become/stay active


and adopt good nutritional habits. Three semester credit hours. Prerequisites: HLSC1300


HLSC4210 Senior Seminar


Course gives degree candidates an opportunity to demonstrate competency and serves as the senior capstone experience. Includes four components: (1) completion of a research project or case study in health and wellness promotion; (2) an oral presentation of research findings (in the writing and delivery of their research, students are expected to demonstrate written, oral, and computer competency in addition to content and critical thought mastery); (3) career and/or graduate study plan; (4) evidence of growth in personal health and wellness during their course of study and the

This course will focus on the development of the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and implement Health Promotion/Wellness Programs in a variety of settings. Issues of interest to health professionals such as: health care cost containment, goal setting, assessing organizational needs, program evaluation, and marketing program interventions are addressed.
