IBS has been doing an annual analysis of core system selections for 20+ years. IBS has been pioneering the Annual Sales League table, which has come to be seen as the
barometer for measuring the sales performance of global vendors, across all back-office systems. The data collated over time has allowed IBS to compare each year’s banking systems market performance and analyze trends across years both in terms of system sales and geographic focus. The analysis constitutes the industry’s only real picture of who has been buying what and where, and would seem to be particularly useful when you delve into the detail. This is the key purpose of this report. Comparisons can be made over time, by supplier, geography, type and size of institution. It is a single point repository to compare performance, on a global perspective.
This year’s Market Dynamics report drills down into the 2016 figures as well as
putt ing i t into context alongside the previous four years’ equivalents (2012 through 2015).
Core banking market system sales in 2016 maintained the positive growth momentum
that began in 2014. The financial crisis of 2008-09 had badly dented the banking technology markets with the impact being felt most in 2013 when system sales dropped by nearly 20%. However, with improvement in the economic situation since 2014, prospects for the banking systems are likely to remain upbeat. Apart from the improvement in number of deals, another interesting trend is the diminishing dominance of universal banking systems and the gradual growth in other systems categories. Also of note is the shift in suppliers’ geographic focus towards developing regions such as Asia, Middle East and Africa.
