Skill-Based: Physical movements of focus skill. Instructor description:


Walk through all points of sail with the boat secured to a dolly, trimming sail accordingly, while naming that point of sail. Be sure to use the actual wind direction of that day.


No-Go Zone - Sails luffing over the center of your boat. Downwind - Ease sails all the way out. Reach - Trimmed half way out. Upwind - Trimmed all the way in.

Activity-Based: Practice the water activities on land. Instructor description:


Have students walk the diamond course that they will be doing on the water. Make sure they adjust their arm, acting as the mainsail correctly for the point of sail they are on.


Have students call out the maneuver at each mark and point of sail between each mark of the diamond course.

Diamond course Description:


Set up a diamond course and have students play follow the leader with one instructor as the leader, demonstrating all points of sail with correct sail trim.


70 On-Water Game: Fox and Hounds Description:


Students will practice various points of sail while trying to catch the fox.


1. Choose one student to be the “fox.” 2. Have the fox tie a bailer to the transom so that it trails about four feet behind the boat (just like Tail Chasers).


3. Tell the fox to sail away to give a head start. 4. Instruct all the other students (the “hounds”) to chase the fox and try to run over the bailer.
