Sail - Sail approximately 4-6 boat lengths on a beam reach away from the person or object. 3. Turn - Tack and immediately bear off to a broad reach. 4. Approach - Cross over your wake, then head up to a close reach to return to the leeward side of the person or object in the water, making a figure-8-like course.
5. Safety Position - Stop in the safety position within arm’s reach of the person or object you’re trying to recover on the windward side of your boat.
