TAKE A WALK ON THE SIDE OF SUSTAINABILITY

1. CELEBRATING NATURE Private fi ve-star villa Morukuru Ocean House is set in the

pristine beauty of De Hoop Nature Reserve in the Overberg region. A perfect marriage of luxury and sustainability, the house was designed to have the least impact on the environment. All the power’s solar, grey and black water and food waste go into a bio-gas system that generates gas for the kitchen and plans are underway to install a pellet boiler which will generate hot water for the lodge. On the luxury side, expect drinks served by your personal butler, your own chef and a private game-drive vehicle and guide. There’s also a clear view of a Southern Right whale nursery. Low-season minimum house rate (six guests per night): R34 000 (7 July-28 September). Tel: 011 615 4303. Adjacent to Ocean House, the fi ve-suite Morukuru Beach Lodge is opening in July, so if crowds aren’t your thing, you can book a single suite in the lap of luxury.

2. GREENING THE CITY Victoria Yards in Lorentzville, Johannesburg, is a unique take on

inner-city development, combining an urban farm (the walkways are lined with edible plants), a creative community, a retail off ering and an event space. Once mired in semi-industrial decay, today the 30 000m2 site is developing into an oasis in the city, where artists and artisans thrive side by side. Pop by for Open Studio Vibes from 10am-5pm on 3 June and 1 July to visit the studios of the many artists and artisans and while you’re there, fortify yourself with a craft beer and pizza at the Impi Brewing Co. 3. WONDER WALLS Transport yourself to a grand

bygone era with the trompe- l’oeil (“fools the eye”) wallpaper trend. Give your home depth, texture and richness with Rebel Walls Trend Collection Second Moment 1|18. There are 14 mural wallpapers: seven of them capture rooms that are like portals to the past and the remaining seven complement them perfectly. Rebel Walls production is environmentally friendly in waste and energy usage. Pictured: Time Traveller, available at St Leger & Viney. Visit: http://stleger.co.za
