TREND WATCH

FASHION FORWARD Imagine helping save our environment

by simply buying a pair of shoes. Outdoor gear giant Timberland’s new range of clothing makes that possible. Partnering with ethical fabric producer Thread, the brand’s released a line of garments and accessories made from Thread’s Ground to Good fabric, a durable canvas material made from discarded plastic bottles collected on the streets of the island nation of Haiti. The range includes other sustainable components, such as reclaimed cotton and recycled rubber. Visit: www.timberland.com

FIGHTING PLASTIC POLLUTION

It’s an alarming fact that if human beings continue to pollute at current levels, by 2050, our oceans will contain more plastic than fi sh by weight. Time for action! Apple has achieved its goal of operating entirely on renewable energy and Starbucks’ Nextgen Cup Challenge off ers US$10 million (about R120,5 million) to the person or group who can develop a compostable coff ee cup. There’s also a new pastime called “plogging” (a combination of “picking” and “jogging”) that’s taking off in Sweden. It encourages people to pick up litter while they’re out running. How will you make a diff erence in the fi ght to protect our planet?

SMALL IS THE NEW BIG Ditch your oversized sunnies and opt

for teensy-weensy ones! Spotted on the likes of Rihanna, Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, Matrix-inspired micro- sunglasses – which are usually oval, round or diamond-shaped – are set to be a leading trend this year.
