AURIS GETS EVEN MORE AWESOME! A sharper aesthetic, a sharper Auris


Toyota’s pulled out all the stops for this third iteration of the Auris. It’s hard not to notice the fresh-faced C-segment hatchback, a stalwart from the land of samurais and ramen, thanks to a more dynamic visage, a strong visual clue to the dynamism that lies beneath its sharp creases.


It will come in two variants in South Africa: a 1,2-litre turbo-charged petrol engine or a 1,8-litre hybridised version (launching early 2019). Across all derivatives you can bank on


power plants that push the envelope in fuel-efficiency, with a strong emphasis on green credentials, most notably a small carbon footprint. It’s underpinned by Toyota New Global Architecture, the engineering foundation the brand employs in the construction of its latest generation of passenger cars. Here it extends to a sophisticated, independent front and rear suspension, endowing the Auris with a low centre of gravity that will result in a very responsive and engaging


driving experience. That’s the “bite” to match its new


styling “bark”, no doubt a result of unleashing the design team and letting them have a bit of mischief. So it’s low- slung now, an aggressive wedge with imposing street presence and ornately jewelled via front and rear lamp clusters. Add to this exciting package


Toyota’s safety tech and multimedia connectivity and the new Auris looks to be more Auris than ever before.
