ADVENTURE

orn to be tough, that is the Toyota Hilux claim to fame. And what better way to test this ethos than in the world’s most gruelling off-
road competition – the Dakar Rally? In January, over a two-week period, vehicles traversed 9 000km through three South American countries: Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. The Hilux proved that it lives up to
the legend of being the “toughest”. Of the 92 cars that started the raid, 47 were Toyota models, with Toyota accounting for almost half of those which made it across the finish line. Toyota Gazoo
Racing SA finished in second and third place in the overall standings with the brand-new Hilux – a confirmation of reliability and durability. Says Toyota President, Akio Toyoda:
“Watching the footage of the rally, I couldn’t help being drawn in and feeling the tough nature of the road and how unforgiving nature is. [I could hardly believe] that vehicles can run in such environments.” He added that he was appreciative of the demonstrative performance and potential of the Toyota vehicles that completed the rally. “This year and going forward, the Toyota Group as a whole will strive to continue to make
ever-better cars by traversing the wide variety of roads and terrains across the world.” There’s no point in eschewing the
virtues of SA’s best-loved people- mover, is there? The Hilux is a sales wunderkind, not just your favourite double cab, but generally the people’s choice for all motoring duties. In fact, says Martin Klopper, Gauteng
Group Director: Halfway Toyota Fourways, it’s SA’s top-selling bakkie. And to celebrate success in the Dakar, it deserves a very special edition. Snap it up fast, as it will only be available in the country for five months.
DAKAR = TOUGH
FOR THE HILUX, NOTHING LESS THAN THE ULTIMATE SPECIAL EDITION WILL DO. MEET THE DAKAR
