BUSINESS TRAVEL
Most people who think of business travel immediately conjure up ideas of conferences, meetings straight from the aircraft and international events, something that is known as ‘Mice’ travel (which stands for ‘meetings, incentives, conferences and events’) and is key to the growth of the global economy. However, this sector is much more than that and can be
just as varied and as exciting as leisure travel (people going on holiday). Business travel consultants are essentially travel agents who arrange travel plans for business people, working out the best flight times and accommodation to suit their clients’ needs. But consultants can also look after high-profile people, whether it’s arranging accommodation for a football team’s next away match or helping to track down rooms for a TV production crew to stay in so they’re ready to film on location. The ‘bleisure’ market – a combination of business and
leisure travel – where those travelling for work might add on a few days to their business trip to explore the destination as a tourist, continues to grow. This offers an interesting mix, where consultants need to be able to craft an itinerary that seamlessly combines business meetings with sightseeing or even family-friendly activities.
