DOMOTEX WORLD: You’re clearly well-known on the trade fair circuit. How many do you visit annually? STEFAN NILSSON: I do 20 design weeks or international trade fairs, plus ten internationally important cities. That’s a normal year. The pandemic stopped that, but we’re slowly coming back. The industry has faced questions but I believe in them. They are super effi cient. At a design week I get to see perhaps eight brands in a day, at a fair I see 40-50 in a day. I think two areas fairs can be better in are attracting a younger audience (yes, I am 50+) and being more digital.


DOMOTEX WORLD: What do you look for at a show like DOMOTEX and what in particular, inspires you to take part? STEFAN NILSSON: As a trend overall, carpets and rugs have grown incredibly. In the 80s and 90s we took the carpets out because we thought they were unhealthy and everyone we knew had allergies. Now, textiles are becoming important in several ways. Carpets can easily add


to a home. They can be used as art on our walls. And


especially with the energy crisis – they keep a home warm. I think carpets have an incredibly bright future. So I will be looking for brands that bring their personality and are also fun. I am also incredibly interested to see how far sustainability has come. The last time we saw recycled plastic bottles and fi shing nets being turned into carpets. What about 2023? What can we expect this year? I also think that wool will be extremely big soon.
