VERBATEX’S AFFORDABLE ROUTE TO THE SILK ROAD

Verbatex, a family-owned company from Kortrijk in Belgium, are bringing the unambiguous message: it doesn’t have to be wool. That’s all thanks to their decades of experience in what they call an exciting niche of viscose carpets. Often referred to as artifi cial silk in carpet manufacturing, viscose is often used to highlight details and give the carpet a particularly graceful touch, all at

a signifi cantly lower price. Its properties are similar to cotton, except that it is even softer and velvety to the touch. They’ll be paying special attention to the topic as a widely-

regarded market leader in this fi eld and one that uses a form of viscose derived from cellulose, which is produced by SFC from rapidly renewable wood as a contribution to the circular economy. What’s more, by adding the colours to the viscose during

fi bre production stage (dope-dyed fi bres), water and energy consumption are also reduced, which also has a role in contributing to the increased sustainability of the product. Visitors will be able to experience how the creative mixing of

viscose fi bres creates a natural-looking chenille with unique colour eff ects at their stand. In addition to pure viscose carpets, Verbatex also likes the eff ect of combining viscose with other fi bres: polyester shrink yarns give the carpets an embossed eff ect in a fi nishing process in which heat is added and the combination with real wool, on the other hand, leads to an impression of fi ne, hand-woven fl at carpets.
