DOMOTEX INTERVIEW
DOMOTEX : You’re known for having quite a powerful list of speakers on stage. Is that the secret strength of DOMOTEX? SWC :We are fl ooring enthusiasts and extremely passionate about what we do. We simply love our job and the community. So when my team and I approach potential speakers for our conference, they can pick up on that easily. I think that’s the key to getting really good speakers for DOMOTEX ON STAGE – you just need to burn for the same topics!
DOMOTEX : The talk of all the creative installations has been quite inspiring. Do you still get a personal buzz out of seeing these? SWC : Absolutely! You know a great space when you see it and fl oors have a signifi cant infl uence in setting the mood of a room. In fact, to see the diff erent takes on the interplay between fl oor, carpets and furniture is a great inspiration for my own home.
DOMOTEX How important are the next generation to this industry? SWC : Every industry benefi ts from young, motivated and talented employees. Don’t we all know at least one colleague who has “always done it this way”? The next generation can provide a necessary breath of fresh air: new ideas and perspectives as well as a fundamental understanding of the latest trends and technologies. The exchange between old hands and the next generation keeps us up-to-date. Look at the exhibition, Boden Schätze. The textile students off er us their unique view on design, modernity, environmental awareness, and the practicality and limits of textile fl oor coverings. Manufacturers, buyers and designers can draw important insights and inspiration from
it. What aspects are important to the next generation? What should we pay attention to in our products to stay relevant? The next generation should never be overlooked, as they are the designers, manufacturers, buyers and visionaries of tomorrow.
SUSTAINABILITY IS PLAYING AN INCREASINGLY IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE DESIGN OF OUR LIVING SPACES, SO IS MORE
RELEVANT THAN EVER BEFORE FOR THE FLOORING INDUSTRY

DOMOTEX : How will technology’s role grow going forward? SWC : When the pandemic hit, we were suddenly a lot more restricted – isolated overnight, you could say. We had to fi nd new ways to stay connected. The past two years have shown how important digitalisation and new technologies are, and strongly pushed digital services. Our goal is to provide the best services, digitally and on-site, for our community. But the pandemic also showed us face-to-face meetings cannot be replaced virtually just like that. It’s nice to have when you have no other choice. I have often been asked whether
the pandemic meant the end for the fair format. But what the pandemic actually revealed was exactly the opposite: people long for personal interaction with others - and this is the core of each and every exhibition and our mission: bringing people together and making them happy!
