Library and Student Support Glossary Academic Registry


Service providing a broad range of administrative services including student administration, support for department and programmes, achievement and assessment.


Alumni Association Association for graduates that aims to build lifelong and mutually beneficial relationships with Middlesex graduates.


Assessment Team Team in Academic Registry responsible for conducting examinations, organising events such as graduation and providing administrative support for the implementation of regulations.


Counselling and Mental Health


Team in LSS that provides confidential support to students with personal, emotional difficulties and mental health issues, through one-to-one sessions and group workshops.


Deferral A deferral of assessment is the postponement of the date you are due to submit an assessment or sit an examination until the next opportunity and without penalty.


Disability and Dyslexia Support (DDS)


The team in LSS that provides advice, needs assessment and practical support to students who have a disability, dyslexia, dyspraxia or other learning difficulty.


Employability Service Service that helps students plan a route into employment.


Extenuating Circumstances There may be difficult circumstances in a student’s life that affects their ability to meet an assessment deadline or affect their performance in an assessment.


International Student Advice Team (ISAT)


Team within LSS providing information and advice on visa and immigration policies and procedures to international students wishing to continue their study at the University. Also provides workshops on the Tier 4 application process.


IT Helpdesk A single point of contact for help with computers, including software applications and Wi-Fi access.


Learning Enhancement Team (LET) The Learning Enhancement Team (LET) works in conjunction with the Schools to provide a school specific service and to help embed student learning and study skills within degree programmes. They also offer drop-in sessions at the StudyHub and one-to-one tutorials and workshops. Additional support is also available with mathematics, numeracy and statistics (MSN).
