Library and Student Support

When a student has concerns about their health or personal safety on campus

What should you be aware of?

Students with health, safety and wellbeing concerns may experience difficulties participating in day-to-day activities and making the most of their time at university.

Students or applicants with mobility issues may come to you because they are experiencing difficulties accessing campus, are in need of first aid, have safety concerns or wish to know what support is available on campus.

What should you do?

If you discover a fire, raise the alarm at once by: — sounding the nearest fire alarm (break glass call point) — leave the building immediately and report to the duty officer or security when outside

On hearing the fire alarm: — leave the building quickly and calmly by the nearest exit — do not stop to collect personal belongings — do not use lifts — if an exit is blocked, find an alternative route

PEEPs (Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan)

If you have a student that has difficulty getting in and out of buildings during an emergency such as a fire (for example due to a disability or medical condition) and you feel they need some assistance, please contact the Disability & Dyslexia Service at: disability@mdx.ac.uk
