Library and Student Support
When a student has a query about or may need medical support
What should you be aware of?
It is possible that at some point a student you know may come to you complaining that they are feeling ill, or you may notice that a student appears unwell or has attendance that is affected by ill health.
What should you do?
Student requiring immediate medical attention: If a student becomes unwell while with you, please dial 020 411 6200 (extension 16200) and ask for a First Aider. Please make sure that you make your location very clear and ensure that a member of staff stays with the student until help arrives. There is always a trained First Aider on call and the security officers have all completed first aid training. They will call emergency services or seek medical advice where required.
Please let security know if anyone has called 999 or ask them to ring 999 as we have a large campus and they are responsible for overseeing first aid incidents and meeting the emergency services as they arrive to guide them straight to the casualty.
Student requiring non-urgent medical attention:
All students who are new to the local area, including those staying in halls of residence, should ensure that they register with a doctor as soon as possible. Students need to be registered with a GP in order to access NHS services.
Students from EU/EEA and certain other countries with reciprocal arrangements are entitled to free treatment from the NHS provided they have applied for this before leaving their country of residence.
