For the purposes of this lesson, the teacher assigns every child a colour from the following list:
• glas • dearg • oráiste • bándearg • corcra • liath
Each child must remember their colour and be prepared to run when it is called out. The teacher continues until all children have run. When the teacher says ‘ildaite’, all children can jump up and do some crazy moves.
Resources: Teacher’s script, colour flashcards printable, whistle.
Teacher’s script card Gach duine, i ngreim láimhe lena chéile agus déanaigí ciorcal cosúil le ‘Ring a Rosie’.
Anois ligigí síos na lámha agus suígí síos ar an urlár. Tá cluiche nua againn inniu. An bhfuil a fhios agaibh an cluiche ‘Fruitbowl’? Is cluiche cosúil le Fruitbowl é seo ach le dathanna.
Teacher holds up colour cards one at a time. They all feature an individual colour, including one multicoloured card. Teacher tells each child a colour to listen out for. Nuair a chloiseann sibh corcra bígí ag rith.
Nuair a deirim “ildaite” preabaigí suas gach duine agus taispeánaigí dúinn bhur ngluaiseachtaí damhsa - bígí ag damhsa.
Glas – bígí ag rith timpeall an chiorcail nuair a deirim glas.
An bhfuil sibh réidh? …Bígí ag rith dearg ... Maith sibh. … An-tapaidh. Game could also be played the next week, with each child being given a number 0–6.
‘Roll agus Abair “Is Mise”’ Instructions
The whole class sits on the floor in a circle. They each sit with legs outstretched into a ‘V’ facing into the circle. The teacher holds up ball:
Seo liathróid. Is múinteoir mise, seo í mo chara Áine. The teacher rolls the ball to that child:
Roll an liathróid agus má fhaigheann tú an liathróid abair: “Is mise … Seo é mo chara …” Each child rolls the ball across circle. Whoever receives the ball must introduce themselves:
“Go raibh maith agat. Is mise Kelly.” To extend:
Child who has sent the ball could say: Tá fáilte romhat.
Child introducing self, if able, could say: Is mise Kelly. Is maith liom corpoideachas. Ní maith liom an dath donn.
