1. Planning


Children sit in a circle formation alongside the teacher and the teacher reads the story aloud. Once the story is read, the teacher adopts the role of class member for the remainder of the session. The teacher speaks only when it is his/her turn to do so. It is important for discussion to flow. It is equally imperative that an ‘activity’ or ‘work’ should not follow the discussion.


2. Discussion rules The class will need to do three things well:


• Listen carefully • Think • Tell each other what they think.


• Éist go cúramach • Smaoinigh • Inis a gcuid smaointe dá chéile


The rules should allow for these three things to happen. The children must participate in deciding the rules so that they feel ownership of them.
