Stephen Doyle Stephen Doyle is a visual artist whose work focuses on the LGBTQ+ community and its interaction with the rest of society.
A graduate of Crawford College of Art and Design, Doyle’s work references queer identity and queer culture through painting and installation. He received the Student of the Year Award upon graduating in 2017, which included a solo exhibition – Alt Masc, which was held in the Lavitt Gallery – and a residency at Backwater Studios in Cork.
Seán Kissane, the Curator of Exhibitions at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, was guest speaker at the opening, of the exhibition. He said:
‘Doyle’s work takes the contemporary concerns of his generation, and, using the traditional medium of portraiture, has brought it right up to date and made it relevant to all of us.’
Since graduating, Stephen has won various international awards and has been shortlisted for many more.
