O’Doherty has had a lifelong interest in Ogham script, a 20-character Celtic system of writing based on Roman letters. For him, Ogham represented concerns about Irish identity and language.
O’Doherty’s works and writings are held in high regard in America and form part of many important permanent collections worldwide.
One Here Now Composition and Colour
One Here Now is a series of nine murals based on Ogham script that cover the walls of the Sirius Arts Centre in Cobh (Fig. 36.15). They address Irish identity and are intended to be a memorial to those who were forced to leave Ireland from ports like Cobh.
