OUSED IN THE IMPOSING concrete building of Amsterdam’s former Bijlmerbajes psychiatric prison, The Movement Hotel opened in 2017, a year after its last inmates had left, and a few months after refugees were moved temporarily into an adjacent part of the sprawling complex.


Refugees now staff this unique city hotel, with the converted space offering double bedrooms, recreational areas, meeting rooms and a restaurant serving harissa meatballs and halloumi. “We hope to show that big businesses can play a role in resettling refugees, especially

project aims to make use of airline frequent flyer programmes. As part of a CSR commitment, travel managers could recommend Miles4Migrants, a US-based charity, to their travellers. It uses donated frequent flyer miles to fly refugees to their new homes and reunites separated families. miles4migrants.org
