WHAT ABOUT WELLBEING FOR TRAVEL ORGANISERS? One area that needs to be tied closely to the future leaders’ pathways is recognising that we need to ensure the workplaces promote positive mental health for them to be able to strive (GTMC Column, BBT July/August 2018). TMCs are being pushed harder and

harder by the suppliers and procurement to do more for less. When revenues or profits drop, it’s the staff that suffer. There are some TMCs already building

the processes, raising awareness and support to all staff at all levels. And these will be the ones who will recruit and retain the talent pool of the future. The GTMC should encourage open

dialogue around mental health and protect the wonderful people in the TMCs today and in the future.

RAW DEAL FOR DUBLIN? This Aer Lingus deal is terrible for customers (“Aer Lingus takes over London City-Dublin route”, buyingbusinesstravel. com). Under this new arrangement the service will be degraded compared to what Cityjet offered, and the prices have at least doubled. Cityjet’s previous base fare is equivalent

to the Aer Lingus “Plus” fare level. Cityjet fares started at £45 one way for that route. Aer Lingus is charging a minimum of £92 for their “Plus” fare from November onwards. Previously, in order to access the

cheapest fares with Cityjet, it paid to book in advance. With Aer Lingus, if a customer tries to book in advance (for example, from January onwards) the fares are more expensive than those that can be booked for November and December travel. Name withheld (via BBT website)

VICIOUS CIRCLE All very sensible, until the next downturn comes along and it will be price, price, price all over again I am afraid (“Business travellers seek convenience over comfort”, buyingbusinesstravel.com).

‘SCARE MONGERING AT THE WORST LEVEL’ Further escalation to another referendum I fear (“Government issues no deal Brexit flight warning”, buyingbusinesstravel.com). It is not feasible that the EU would impose a no-fly zone to the UK. What about all other non-EU carriers? How do they operate into the EU? This is scaremongering at the worst level, and the EU would suffer

far more than the UK. The whole Brexit debate is getting out of hand. Michael Edwards (via BBT website)

GOING THE EXTRA MILE British Airways says: “We’ll always go the extra mile to provide excellent customer service.” (“BA improves connection services”, buyingbusinesstravel.com). Unless you don’t happen to be one of the privileged classes, ie, only for First, Club World or Club Europe, Gold and Silver Executive Club members. Name withheld (via BBT website)

@CAROSTRACHAN Wow. Where did you find travellers who would choose an economy seat over a business seat?! I know a few thousand travel managers who would like to meet them! (Business travellers seek convenience over comfort)

@TRAVEL_HACK Good news (GTMC and Bournemouth University to promote business travel careers). Business travel is still largely unknown as a sector in terms of being an exciting and rewarding sector in which to build a career.

@SW19LUNCHIE [CHRIS CROWLEY] Thank you to all our customers, partners and the @ACTE tweets and @HRS_worldwide @HRS_NAM teams for making #ACTEparis18 such a success – great topics/discussion, unique collaboration and a fabulous event last night at Pavillons Bercy #hrs #data #thetimeisnow #businesstravel

@AURELIEKRAU Great session on the benefits of #blockchain with #AirFrance & HRS. My takeaway: Interoperability is key whether we’re talking API or blockchain! There is a call from suppliers to create a more valuable and more OPEN distribution model. #ACTEparis18

@MADLEEEEN “For the early career traveller it’s important to have special on-boarding program that ensures new hires understand the travel policy and tools available to them,” says Kerrie Henshaw Cox, Global travel category lead at AstraZeneca. #ACTEparis18
