In a bid to offer its customers the best


service possible to meet their individual needs, four years ago Unisurge opened another distribution/manufacturing facility in Castleford. This facility enables it to offer increased delivery to its Northern customer base. NHS Trusts are seeing a reduction in storage capacity and Unisurge aims to offer a delivery solution to ease this pressure. The facility also holds a second (EtO) sterilisation chamber and injection moulding which allows Unisurge to build their Polyware onsite to ensure that production and quality meet the customer requirments. “We’re working very closely with customers on stability. We work with them on a weekly/fortnightly and monthly basis on usage, Account managers will meet with Trusts to review the stock reports which are shared with customers weekly. Usage of procedure packs can and will vary in Trusts and it is vital that as a key supplier Unisurge work closely to monitor procedures to ensure that the correct stock levels are put into production at the correct time, to maintain stock on the shelf.

Previously we’ve focused very much on theatres, but we’re now looking at all the other wards and departments – so while we’re still focusing on theatre packs, we’re now looking at non-theatre packs – cannulation packs, dressing packs, wound care packs – as well as the components that go into them, such as gowns, drapes, swabs, instruments and Polyware. “We are asking how we can help people working at maternity, A&E, radiology, critical care, the wards, outpatients and all the departments. Can we help sterile service departments? We now have our own range of tray wrap – we provide the interleave tray wrap and the bonded tray wrap – in all sizes, and at a competitive price.” Ultimately, Phil Crook says Unisurge’s biggest aim is to help hospitals achieve savings without compromising on quality. “The NHS is growing,” Phil concluded. “We have more and more patients and it’s costing the DOH more money to maintain our service – but it’s something the public wants to keep going and is a valuable amenity that we have. Our clinical team will visit hospitals and work with all departments to identify potential savings and to ensure that all staff are confident that all items are of the highest quality and meet their needs. “The NHS is something that Unisurge wants to help maintain and develop – and we do everything we can to do that.”
