Cuttingcostswithout compromisingonquality
The Clinical Services Journal’s editor Chris Shaw recently visited Unisurge’s Newmarket headquarters to discover the latest expansion developments, and to find out more about the procedure pack specialist’s commitment to delivering quality items at a competitive price.
Established in 2005, Unisurge has since achieved exceptional growth and, while many organisations may fear the consequences of Brexit, Phil Crook, director of sales, Unisurge International, believes the company is more than equipped to deal with any issues. To facilitate future business opportunities, Unisurge has invested in a £6 million expansion project at its Newmarket headquarters.
“Brexit may create import issues, however Unisurge are prepared for any challenges,” said Phil. “For example, we bring in the majority of our items from the Far East; we buy in bulk and we hold stock, Unisurge have 12 weeks’ worth of raw materials and finished goods on the shelf at any given time. “From a development point of view,
everything that we build is built in our own cleanrooms. It goes through sterilisation in our onsite ETO’s, it’s stored in one of our three warehouses and it’s delivered across the whole of the UK using our own vehicles. Brexit won’t have the same impact on Unisurge – because we are UK based and UK focused.”
Unisurge’s investment in the future is a direct result of the growing customer base; existing customers are expanding contracts and new customers are growing all the time. “As we go forward, we want to work closer with our customers, and also with the Department of Health and CPP – and all the other towers,” Phil asserted.
The Newmarket expansion was developed to provide additional warehouse and
production capacity which will facilitate the integration of state-of-the-art IT systems to streamline and optimise product flows. “The project confirms Unisurge’s commitment to provide service excellence for the benefit of our customers and partners,” Phil said. “We’ve enjoyed a continual increase in business as a result of the acquisition of the Pennine Healthcare pack portfolio, and continued new business success with our existing range of procedure

packs and supplementary items.” The procedural theatre packs are designed and assembled within a certified clean room environment and are designed to match exacting procedural needs across all core specialities.
In October 2016 Unisurge acquired
Pennine Healthcare’s procedure pack business, and since then has invested in 110 new people and to save time began air freighting product from China, rather than to send it by boat. “Once again, we’ve invested to make sure that we have the facilities, capacity, and people that we need to ensure customers receive the items they require,” Phil added. “We’re open to working with customers – if there’s something that we don’t have at the moment or there’s something that we don’t do we just need the customer to speak to us about it. We’re happy to look at standardisation of products across multiple
