Localisation Beyond Translation How Players Differ by Market
Localisation is about more than language, payments and currency. Kanggiten CEO Viktor Cherkas explains why understanding who players are, how they arrive and how they behave should shape a market strategy from the outset.
Localisation is usually treated as translation plus a few local payment methods. Te larger factor is behavioural, and it starts with knowing which players a market brings you.
Ask an operator what localisation means and most will describe a language pack and a local wallet. Tat is the surface. Te harder question, and the one that decides whether a market launch works, is behavioural. Do players in a market behave differently, or do different kinds of players simply arrive there? For anyone entering Brazil, Ontario or a CIS market in 2026, the answer changes what you build.
Viktor Cherkas, CEO of Kanggiten, has watched the pattern repeat across the 50+ brands running on the platform. His argument is that localisation begins well before translation, with a clear read on who a market sends you.
A MARKET IS MORE THAN A NATIONALITY
Most localisation plans rest on one assumption, that a market equals a nationality. It rarely holds. Behaviour in a given country is shaped as much by how players got there as by where they live. A player acquired through an affiliate landing page behaves differently from one who arrived through a brand campaign. Te device they use shapes what converts, and so do the payment methods they already trust and whatever experience they carry from other operators. Two players with the same passport can want two different products.

"Regional differences are real, but geography alone rarely explains them," Cherkas says. "Acquisition channel, device and payment habits can matter as much as nationality."
A market is better understood as a set of segments arriving through different doors. Te practical move is to read those segments before reasoning from the country.
WHAT THE REGIONS SHOW
None of this makes regional patterns noise. Across the brands on the platform, Kanggiten sees clear tendencies by region.
"Brazil responds well to mobile-first, fast-paced content and localised campaigns," Cherkas says. "Asian markets show stronger demand for live casino and familiar table formats. In many African markets, casino activity is influenced by sports-betting traffic, with simple, lightweight games performing better. Across our CIS-focused traffic, classic slots and recognisable providers remain especially strong, while crash games receive less attention than industry headlines might suggest."
Tese are starting points, not templates. A market's real profile shows up in the data on who arrived, and a lobby built from a regional stereotype is how launches misfire. Te read comes from acquisition source, device split and early session behaviour, and it often cuts across the borders a map would draw.
