By the beginning of the new millennium, NOVOMATIC was already
well established across Europe and increasingly active overseas. But compared with the Group of today, its size remained relatively modest.
NOVOMATIC AT THE TURN OF THE MILLENNIUM Looking back at the activity around 2000/01 provides a snapshot of a company entering another period of development. Advanced Technology Systems International (ATSI) was established in cooperation with the University of Krakow in Poland, strengthening NOVOMATIC’s software development capabilities. ATSI opened facilities in Krakow, while AD- MIRAL Sportwetten relocated its headquarters to Novomatic Street 1 in Gumpoldskirchen. NOVOMATIC was also extending its international reach, including
licensing developments in Peru and South Africa. Its products were already represented in the majority of European casinos and numerous casinos overseas. Several products associated with this period would have a lasting impact. Dolphin’s Pearl was launched, while Novo Multi- Roulette and Novo TouchBet Live-Roulette were presented at ICE 2001 in London. Book of Ra was also being developed around this time. Twenty-five
years later, its longevity stands out in an industry characterised by a constant flow of new content. Book of Ra became one of the games most closely associated with NOVOMATIC, progressing through successive generations of land-based products before making the transition into

digital gaming. Its development and continued evolution form the next part of this anniversary series. NOVOMATIC itself was meanwhile entering a period in which its physical presence in Gumpoldskirchen and its international footprint would change substantially.
BUILDING FOR A LARGER GROUP Te acquisition of NSM-LÖWEN Entertainment in 2003 strengthened NOVOMATIC’s position in Germany, where the company became market leader. Back in Gumpoldskirchen, the growing scale of the business created a different challenge. Production was spread across eight facilities in the town. Between 2008 and 2010, NOVOMATIC undertook an approximately €90m redevelopment and expansion programme intended to consolidate those operations, improve production processes and logistics, and provide capacity for further growth. Te existing floor space almost doubled, increasing from approximately 56,000sq.m to around 120,000sq.m. Completed in 2009, the expanded headquarters included a 40-
metre-high, eight-storey tower and a ground-floor corridor approximately 350 metres long connecting the different areas of the site. Te scale of the facility also reflects NOVOMATIC’s vertically integrated manufacturing model. Operations at Gumpoldskirchen include metalworking, plastics manufacturing, carpentry and interior design, alongside production, storage and other specialist functions. Further development has sub- sequently taken the headquarters to approximately 287,000sq.m.
