ATKINS GREGORY PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR THE ARMED

FORCES COVENANT Cambridgeshire-based commercial contract cleaning provider, Atkins Gregory, has announced that it has received the bronze award from the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), in recognition of commitment to the scheme.

ERS encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same. The scheme encompasses bronze, silver and gold awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant (find out more here).

CSSA RELAUNCHES WEBSITE AND BEGINS NEW

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE The Cleaning and Support Services Association (CSSA) has given its website a sleek new look and has added a ‘members only’ section, offering essential tips and up-to-date industry knowledge.

The relaunch comes after the Association’s Open Evening in London that brought together contract cleaners and service providers from all across the UK.

CSSA Marketing Director, Sean Taylor, told the assembled delegates that the CSSA was going from strength to strength since it reformed just 18 months ago. He told the audience that membership was up, and the inaugural CSSA Awards held at the Cleaning Show in March had been a huge success.

Simon Biggs, Atkins Gregory’s managing director, said: “I am a veteran, ex-Army and a big supporter of the reservists. The Armed Forces Covenant is the nation’s commitment to those who serve in the armed forces and their families; that commitment continues after they leave the services.

“Reservists and veterans have a host of skills to bring to the workplace, but sometimes need a little extra support or a helping hand during the transition to the civilian career ladder. Atkins Gregory is proud to be part of that. It’s not a totally altruistic gesture, though, as a company we benefit from the forces’ training, whether that is in management skills or general work ethics, it makes sense for us to invest in these people.

“Signing up to the Armed Forces Covenant ERS brings a host of positive outcomes to any organisation, it enhances the workforce, not only with

skills but also with accredited training; it demonstrates a commitment to local community and Corporate Social Responsibility; and it gives something back to those who would give their lives for our freedom and safety.”

compelling presentation on some of the key issues and threats the industry was currently facing. He talked about Brexit, GDPR, the growth of employment tribunals, and the new employment model of worker v. employee, as seen in the ‘gig economy’ with firms such as Uber.

The evening offered the opportunity for delegates to talk openly about some of these big problems and discuss various solutions. It also allowed delegates the chance to network with some of the biggest movers and shakers in the contract cleaning sector.

Sean Taylor said the CSSA wants to help businesses of all sizes in the

cleaning industry compete in a very uncertain world. He commented: “The cleaning industry is facing an unprecedented period of change at the moment. There is Brexit, the threat of recession, GDPR, not to mention new technology and the continuous tightening of our margins.

“The CSSA is the only association that represents the cleaning industry at government level, so we can voice our concerns about these big issues at the top table. By joining the CSSA you know you’re part of the in-crowd and you’ll be armed with the best information to make the best business decisions.”
