DESIGNER STYLE FROM DIESPEKER
We take a trip to the elite Mayfair district of London for our Makeover of the Month
where terrazzo from stone specialists, Diespeker & Co, was used to create a seamless, chic, and durable floor finish.
London terrazzo experts, Diespeker & Co, achieved designer status for the flooring and stair solutions they provided during a recent refurbishment of a trendy Mayfair boutique.
During the project, the implementation of the flooring and stairs brought several challenges and, working in close collaboration with the architects, Diespeker developed new skills on the job, resulting in the perfect matching of cement-based and resin-based terrazzo on both timber and concrete substrates.
The Mayfair store, located in Mount Street, is fashion brand J&M Davidson's second retail outlet in London, with the

other situated in Notting Hill. The design for the London boutique, which features soft tones and metallic detail across two floors, was created by Barber and Osgerby’s Universal Design Studio.
The brand’s signature colours are calming neutral tones, focusing on dusty taupes and soft pinks in the choice of wall colour. From the start, the architects were keen to reflect this ambience in the flooring, opting for a bespoke resin based terrazzo without joints in grey and cream, using 5-8mm Italian marble chippings White Carrara, Rosso Verona and Dove Grey. The final terrazzo mix resulted in elegant and subtle characteristics that ideally suited the overall setting.
Diespeker has been working with terrazzo since 1881. The company has recently broken the mould by seamlessly combining the different forms of this inherently practical material through innovative design solutions for flooring and stairs, during their latest refurbishment of a Mayfair boutique for fashion brand J&M Davidson.
The overall desired effect for the terrazzo element of the project was an unbroken flow. To achieve this, the resin was used as a decorative finish on both concrete and timber substrates. This resulted in a smooth transition from the resin based floor in the basement to the timber framed landing in resin, and the
