High School State Honors Jazz Ensemble Staff


Laura Caviani, director of the jazz ensemble at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, is the conductor of the 2017 WSMA High School State Honors Jazz Ensemble. Adam Hardt from Cedarburg High School is the jazz ensemble coordinator and rhythm section coach. Other section coaches include William Nelson from Ripon Middle School (saxophone), Robert Swerman from La Crosse Center High School (trumpet) and Katie Poole from Bullen High School in Kenosha (trombone).


Fall Concert: Friday, October 27, 11:30 a.m., Madison Ball- room, Monona Terrace Convention Center, One John Nolen Drive, Madison, WI.


Attend the October WSMA Honors Concerts!


Plan now to attend all four WSMA State Honors Music Project concerts that are held in conjunction with the Wisconsin State Music Conference. The performances are certain to inspire and rejuvenate music teachers. The spirit, musicianship and performance quality of these concerts is a reminder of the many reasons we go into this profession. These concerts provide the

opportunity for teachers to hear the best musicians that the state has to offer.


Remember, online registration begins November 1 for the 2018 WSMA High School State Honors Project. Applications are due no later than Friday, December 1, 2017. Encourage students to apply and audition for this incredible experience.


Apply to Perform at the State Capitol!


Once again WMEA will be sponsoring concerts in the state capitol during the months of March and April. Criteria for Selection


To best showcase music education in Wisconsin the following selection criteria is used:


• Considered together, the groups invited will represent all grade levels – elementary, middle, high and collegiate.


• Considered together, the groups invited will portray a wide variety of types of performing organizations.


• Considered together, groups from all areas of the state will be represented.


• In order for as many students to have the opportunity to participate as possible, groups that have not performed at the capitol in the past will be considered first.


• Applicant must be a WMEA member.


Procedures WMEA will request preferred dates from the capitol.


• Request forms will be available at wmeamusic.org by Oct. 1 and the WMEA booth at conference.


• Download and complete the request forms. Then send the completed forms to WMEA State Chair Linda Meier*.


• Requests must be submitted by December 1, 2017.


• Dates listed are tentative and subject to change by the capitol.


• Capitol will confirm in January. • If selected you will be notified by January 15.
