Welcome back – I hope your summer was spectacular! Mine was fi l led with making spe- cial memories fitting our theme, “Well- Rounded With Mu- sic.” My fami ly (wife, two teenage

daughters and I) packed our summer with a variety of musical experiences, including band camp performances, student “jam” sessions and summer lessons, P!nk in concert, Kinky Boots and Cats on Broad- way, Hamilton in Chicago and State Fair with bands everywhere. Amidst typical camping, boating and waterpark time, music rounded out our summer fun and is continually at the center of family life.

While summer is often a great time for revitalization, each season brings new beginnings, and in Wisconsin, we get to experience all of them! Right now it’s “back-to-school” season and a fresh start for students, teachers, administrators and all others who are integral to ensuring a quality education for our youth. With fall right around the corner, we are gearing up for the annual Wisconsin State Music Conference, October 25–28. Check out the special conference section beginning on page 46 and plan to be part of this great tradition of professional development and networking with colleagues from throughout the state, and beyond. If you are interested in all that goes into creating the conference (hint: it takes a big team of staff, officers and volunteers), go to page 6 for a great read from WMEA President Lynn Seidl.

As you turn the pages you will find a variety of insightful, theme-based articles from our regular columnists as well as other special items, such as an introduc- tion to understanding the new WMEA Wisconsin Music Standards, developed by a dedicated team of educational lead- ers who dug deep to make sure they fit the needs of today’s music educators. Also in the spirit of strong teams making a difference, see CMP’s 40th

feature (page 44)... all this and so much more contributing to an education that’s “Well-Rounded With Music.”
