The second strategy, WSMA will in- crease awareness and recognized value of WSMA programs and services among school and community decision-makers, challenges us to communicate WSMA programs and services to a broader audience than just teachers at WSMA member schools. School administrators, school board members, music booster organizations, other educational support agencies, private studio teachers, parents and students should also be more aware of WSMA programs and services and how valuable they are to students who partici- pate in them. There are seven action steps in the WSMA strategic plan designed to accomplish this second strategy:
1. WSMA will investigate ways it can become involved in workshops, meetings and conferences attended by decision-makers (e.g., WSMA currently exhibits at the annual Wisconsin School Board Associa- tion State Education Convention; are there other workshops, meet- ings or conferences that communi- ty decision-makers attend at which WSMA could have a presence?).
2. WSMA will develop workshops and meetings intended for deci- sion-makers (e.g., WSMA work- shops and meetings are currently designed as professional develop- ment opportunities for music edu- cators and their students; are their workshops and meetings that could be designed for school and commu- nity decision-makers?).
3. WSMA will explore expansion of promotional resources for use by external entities (e.g., WSMA cur- rently promotes its programs and services to schools; could WSMA promotional resources be designed to appeal to educational support entities?).
4. WSMA will expand communica- tion to decision-makers about the successes of students and teachers (e.g., there are significant numbers of students and teachers who have
Wisconsin School Musician
successes through their involve- ment in WSMA programs and services annually; in what ways could WSMA communicate these successes to school and community decision-makers?).
5. WSMA will share with decision- makers the success stories as told by students and teachers about the
value of WSMA programs and services (i.e., in what ways could WSMA obtain and share with school and community decision- makers the success stories of students and teachers about their participation in WSMA programs and services?).
