Efficient and Accurate 2D Tube Rack Reader
The DataPaq™ Mirage 2D tube rack reader, developed by Ziath (an Azenta Life Sciences company), has become the preferred instrument for numerous life science laboratories due to its rapid reading speed and accurate decoding capabilities. With an impressive full 96 position rack reading time of approximately 1 second, it ensures high-speed and error-free performance.
Neil Benn, Technical Director of Ziath commented: “Drawing upon our long experience of designing high performance 2D barcode readers - the Mirage employs a unique arrangement of LED lights and ‘light shelves’ to reduce internal reflection and unwanted illumination effects. This patented optical design enables the reader to decode badly printed tubes more easily as well as to discern codes that are covered in a layer of ice. By using a high intensity of light close to the tubes, but with the light shelves blocking direct illumination of the camera, a very high contrast image can be obtained enabling most manufacturers tubes to read easily and reliably. Images are only taken in monochrome which again increases the contrast and reduces the transfer and processing time enabling the Mirage to decode a full rack of 96 tunes in less than one second.”
The Mirage offers effortless setup and comes pre-calibrated and ready to scan, simplifying the process. It is compatible with all widely used standard SBS format racks, and its compact design allows for seamless integration into liquid handling platforms and automation systems. With its affordability and low profile, the Mirage serves as an ideal alternative to traditional flatbed scanners.

ilmt.co/PL/Ve5n New Electroporation System Enhances Cell Transfection
Thermo Fisher Scientific has released the Invitrogen Neon NxT Electroporation System, a state-of-the-art device that maximises the transfection efficiency, cell recovery, and reproducibility of challenging cell types.
Thanks to the optimally spaced Neon NxT electrodes, which create a uniform electric field, scientists can achieve desired cell modifications in a greater number of cells while losing fewer during the transfection process. The device also includes ergonomic enhancements and an improved feedback loop.
The Neon NxT system is built on the core technology of the Neon Transfection System and simplifies electroporation while reducing cell mortality and contamination risk. The new system’s scalability enables researchers to move from initial research to clinical cell therapy development and GMP-compliant cell therapy manufacturing without re-optimising electroporation parameters. The device is suitable for gene and protein expression research, cell line development, gene silencing, and genome editing.

ilmt.co/PL/z18Q Extended Warranty on Scales from 2023
Leading UK weighing scale and balance manufacturer Adam Equipment is extending the warranty periods of its products to as much as five years in a move to demonstrate the quality and durability of its products.
Effective from January 2023, Adam’s new warranties will apply to all new purchases from that point. “Extending many products to a five-year warranty will put the Adam brand ahead of just about any other scale or balance manufacturer you can think of.” said CEO Richard Storey.
Richard continued: “Our previous warranty structure, whilst in line with much of the weighing industry, didn’t reflect the confidence we have in the quality and durability of Adam products.
“So, we did some research. We’ve spoken to customers, some who have had an Adam scale or balance for 10, 15 years or more and it’s still going strong.
“We know Adam products will outlast the average scale or balance - so we don’t think they should have an average scale or balance warranty.
“Warranty gives you peace of mind, peace of mind that we will stand by the investment you make and that the quality and durability of our products’ performance allows you to weigh better for longer.”
To take advantage of the new, longer warranty periods, buyers only need to register their product on Adam’s website upon purchase. Should they experience any issues with parts or workmanship, the buyer would contact either their local Adam office or the authorised reseller who they bought the product from by telephone or email to start the streamlined claim process.
“We’ve been in this industry for 50 years and our customers know that the Adam brand means quality,” said Richard. “We’re excited that our new warranties promise new customers that they can trust Adam for their weighing needs - with double the peace of mind compared to our old warranty periods in many cases.”
Adam Equipment, which celebrated its 50th birthday in 2022, is making the new warranty periods available worldwide, via its offices in the UK, Germany, USA, South Africa, Australia and China.
